Siri secretly stores your questions for 2 years

What exactly Siri does with your data isn’t really that clear, although Apple has confirmed that it retains users’ questions for up to 2 years. 

SiriApple said Siri, which needs to be connected to the internet to function, sends every users’ queries to Apple.

Apple revealed this information after the question was raised and highlighted the fact that the privacy statement for Siri wasn’t very clear about how long that information is kept or what would be done with it.

Facebook is speaking with Apple about developing a version of its new mobile software for the iPhone, in a strategy to grow revenue from the increasing number of users who access the social network on smartphones.

facebook iphoneAfter debuting the software, called Home, for Google’s Android operating system earlier this month, the operator of the world’s biggest social-networking service is speaking to Apple and Microsoft about expanding to other platforms, said Adam Mosseri, director of product at Facebook. The talks are ongoing and nothing has been finalised, he said.

Now that the majority of users access Facebook via mobile devices, chief executive Mark Zuckerberg is looking for ways to keep them engaged longer and coaxing more advertisers to pay to place promotions. While Google’s Android software powered about 70 per cent of smartphones worldwide last year, Apple’s iOS operating system commanded about 21 per cent, according to Gartner. New iPhone on the horizon mid-year

Apple is poised for a possible US release (June-September) of the it’s next iPhone.

Apple is also reportedly working on a cheaper iPhone model that could win it some market share in developing countries.

Apple proposes ultimate phone protection

Dropping your iPhone onto the floor and finding a cracked screen may become a thing of the past, according to Apple.

iphone balanceApple has been working on a system that will turn around a falling iPhone so that it will land face up instead of screen down.

Plans have been filed by Apple to the US Patent Office.

The patent application for a ”protective mechanism for an electronic device” says it aims to prevent some or all of the damage to any electronic device with a processor, such as a tablet or a laptop, but specifically mentions the iPhone.

A number of solutions are proposed to position the phone on landing: the movement of a weighted mass within the device; aeroplane-like foils that extend out from the surface of the device; and a thrust mechanism such as a small gas-propulsion device. Read the remainder of this entry »
